Maillol, Aristride Biography
French painter and sculptor, whose artworks are characterized by solidity and simple realism. Aristride Mialool studied (1882-86) at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and subsequently produced oil paintings, engravings, and tapestries
After 1910 Aristride Maillol was internationally famous and received a constant flood of commissions. Maillol resumed oil painting in 1939, but sculpture never relinquished preeminence in his affections.
